February'21 Message from the CEO

Daniela Otero

CEO Skål International

Technology, an ally of global communication.

Technology has always been identified with the development of society and with progress. In particular, mobile digital technology has been a huge step forward, reaching all communities and all fields of personal and work life. Therefore, whoever does not adapt to this new language is in danger of being left out of the system.

And the future belongs to digital natives and those who best adapt to new technologies and the rapid changes they cause within society.

In this context, the mobile phone is the device that has had the most significant dissemination in record time, reaching almost every corner of the planet. Besides, its use has led to new habits and essential changes in our lifestyle.

The increase in mobile functions makes us think that, in the not-too-distant future, this will be the only device we are going to need. It has become a dedicated personal assistant that allows us to be in communication with all of our contacts and access all kinds of information and services that help us on a day-to-day basis.

There is no doubt that mobile phones have become an essential technological device in today's society. It is the object that always accompanies us and to which we pay the most significant attention.

            Virtual Membership Card

Aware of all this, Skål International has been working for the last two years on an interesting digital modernization project that allows us to progressively adapt to new processes and trends to offer more and better services to our members.

Thus, continuing with the modernization of our organization, in 2021, we will replace our physical card, which identifies you as a member of Skål International, with a virtual card that you can easily download to your mobile.

Why this change? There are many reasons, but the most important is that this new functionality within the Skål International digital system will allow us to add value to the Membership card and gradually add loyalty programs with benefits and discounts.

In a globalized world, being interconnected and informed is essential.

We have recently learned that there is strength in unity… being united allows us to help each other in difficult times and grow more quickly in more prosperous times.

For this reason, the project of creating an authentic global digital Skål network has been a great challenge that we have been able to achieve. In these first months of the year, the worldwide network system of websites for clubs and National Committees has already been tested and is now operating.

Thanks to the great work carried out by the IT developers, the Skål International team, and the commendable collaboration of Skål International Canada (who offered to be a test node for the new system). Today we celebrate that Skål International Canada now has its new National Committee website up and running, as well as the websites for all the Canadian clubs!

Now, thanks to Denis Smith, national information flows to the websites of the Canadian clubs, which can also add their data locally.

With this successful experience, other countries, such as Germany, have already started working on the project. We hope that by the end of 2021, we will have the majority of the websites of the clubs, National Committees, and Departments, etc., launched and connected, in what will surely be the most important global network of professionals in the tourism sector.
