Mourning Peter Nedomansky

Sad news from Skål International Wien.

Our club Skål International Wien has lost one of its greatest members, Peter Nedomansky, Membre d’Honneur, has died in March 2021 and left us with great emptiness; he turned 90 in August last year.

Many of our Skål International members, especially from the older generation, might remember Peter Nedomansky from Vienna.

For more than 60 years, Peter was a reliable and much appreciated Skålleague, for many years’ member of the board as well as International Skål Councillor Austria, and for the significant development of our association nationally and internationally, substantially jointly responsible.

Peter was a dynamic supporter of spreading the Skål International movement to many countries, especially helping to establish the clubs in Budapest (Hungary), Prague (Czech Republic), Zagreb (Croatia), and of course well as in Austria.

Peter was a hotelier of the old generation of family entrepreneurs. His typical Viennese hotel Erzherzog Rainer was built and opened in 1913 by his father Leopold Nedomansky, doyen of the Vienna hotel industry. The hotel became early a place for the Viennese society, and as such, it was further developed during Peters management from the 1970s onwards. For over 80 years, it was in the hands of Nedomanskys, known for impeccable service and attention to detail.

Like his father, Peter played an active role in the hospitality life of Vienna, and we in Skål International remember him also as an essential co-organizer of the very successful 49th Skål International World Congress in Vienna in 1988.

From left to right, first row: former International Councillor Peter Nedomansky, his wife, Secretary Sylvia Liebisch, Hon. President Mario Rehulka (Wien/Austria).
Second row: member Reinhard Blumauer and his wife, President Skål International Wien Heinz G. Risska.

Skål International and the Austrian Tourism industry have lost a great personality, a gentleman and genuine friend.

May he rest in peace!

Sylvia Liebisch
